More than 300 people in Fiji get their legs amputated each year due to Diabetes.
The revelation comes a day ahead of the World Diabetes day which will be celebrated tomorrow.
National Advisor on the Non-Communicable Diseases, Doctor Isimeli Tukana said some people in their 40's also have leg amputation because of high level of Diabetes.
He also said that it’s expensive to have an artificial leg.
According to Doctor Tukana, the number of amputations can be decreased if people control their sugar intake, exercise regularly and have a proper diet.
It was also revealed earlier this week that more men in the Northern Division suffer from Diabetes.
Figures released by the Ministry states that out of the 109 new
cases reported this year, the largest portion comes from men in Tukavesi, Seaqaqa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu and Labasa.
