If you are looking at importing New Zealand grown tomatoes and capsicums, you can now apply for the import permits.
This follows an agreement between New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Biosecurity Authority of Fiji.
Authority CEO Elvis Silvestrini highlights the ban was imposed in June 2008 following the detection of a disease causing bacterium in some tomatoes and capsicum plants.
Silvestrini said all loose tomatoes and capsicum from New Zealand must be cleaned and brushed while unregistered greenhouses must be fumigated.
He added this is to protect Fiji and prevent an incursion of exotic pests and diseases that can have effect on plants, animals and human health.
