The Fijian Electoral Commission has clearly stated that the National Register of Voters has been available for public inspection since December 2013.

With regard to obtaining an electronic copy of the National Register of Voters, the Commission said it is of the view that there is some uncertainty in the current legislation which it hopes will be addressed in the Electoral Decree.

The Electoral Commission stresses that it is committed to free and fair elections and is fully committed to discharging its statutory function in accordance with the written and other relevant laws governing elections.

It said the National Register of Voters will be updated to include the voters turning 18 at the time of elections and those who may have been missed out.

The National Federation Party, the Fiji Labour Party, the Social Democratic and Liberal Party and the People’s Democratic Party have been asking for electronic copies of the National Voters Register.

They say it is a public document and the electronic copy should be made available to the parties at a certain cost.
