979 dengue cases have been recorded so far this year.

Speaking at the launch of the National Dengue Awareness and Cleanup Campaign at Valelevu today, Minister of Health and Medical Services Jone Usamate said it shows that the dengue pattern has changed.

Usamate said dengue has become a public health threat all year round.

He said Fiji was hit by one of the worst dengue outbreak ever from October 2013 to March 2014 and the Ministry recorded over 10,000 cases and 11 deaths.

The national launch will be followed by a National Cleanup campaign.

Usamate said this is to eradicate any breeding grounds that might give dengue mosquitoes a chance to thrive.

He added that the Ministry of Health is working with the Ministry of Local Government and other Ministries and stakeholders.
