A 52-year-old barber has been sentenced to eleven years imprisonment after he was convicted of raping a 13-year-old boy in 2012.

The court heard that the man took the boy to a room under the guise of giving him a massage. He then raped the 13-year-old boy.

In mitigation, the counsel for the man said that he is married with four children and the sole breadwinner of the family looking after his disabled sister. It was also stated in court that the accused is a rheumatic heart patient and cannot undertake strenuous physical activity.

Lautoka High Court Judge, Justice Aruna Aluthge sentenced the man to eleven years behind bars. He has to serve a minimum of five years before being eligible for parole.
