“Government is not going to provide everything for the people.”

This is the comment made by Minister for National Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu after being asked on what government will do for those people who cannot afford to get to hardware shops to purchase their goods under the Help for Home initiative.

Fijivillage has received information from the ground that this issue is being faced by the villagers of Nakorotubu, Nasinu and Burewai in Ra.

Seruiratu says the government has provided for the transportation of the goods from the hardware shops to their homes.

He says it is the responsibility of the affected individuals to play their part to find their way to the hardware shops and purchase what they need under the electronic cards provided.

Seruiratu stresses that development is about partnership and everyone needs to do their part.

Meanwhile, FRIENDS Founder and Director Sashi Kiran says that they have seen in the interior villages of Ra that students are finding it difficult to learn in tents when it gets too hot or when it rains.

Seruiratu says they feel for the children who are facing such situations.

Meanwhile Kiran says that people living in villages in the interior of Ra and coastal areas need farming and fishing equipment to move on with their lives and provide for their families.

Seruiratu says that after the National Budget announcement on the 22nd of this month, different ministries will have the responsibility of distributing farming and fishing equipment to villages who need them.
