Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and New Zealand Foreign Minister Gerry Brownlee were given a tour of the New Zealand Navy vessel, HMNZS Hawea today.

The vessel which is berthed at the Suva harbour has been in the country for one month and it is helping patrol Fiji's Exclusive Economic Zone and territorial waters.

The Fiji Navy and Ministry of Fisheries is also receiving training through the partnership.

The HMNZS Hawea has patrolled the Lau and Lomaiviti waters since its arrival.

This is the first time one of the New Zealand Navy's inshore patrol vessels has been deployed to the South Pacific.

Brownlee and Bainimarama are expected to discuss a range of issues including defence, disaster risk reduction and New Zealand's aid to Fiji.
