A total of 38 schools and 28 hotels, resorts and thousands of people are making final preparations for a planned water shutdown in the Nadi and Lautoka areas that begins today and ends next Tuesday.
The Ministry of Education has confirmed that the Water Authority of Fiji together with the Commissioner Western’s Office are taking proactive measures ensuring that the 29 primary schools and 9 secondary schools have water tanks to cater for students during the planned water shutdown.
Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association CEO Fantasha Lockington has confirmed that hotels in the Nadi to Lautoka area have already scaled up their own water‑saving efforts ahead of the planned water shutdown.
Fiji Marriott Resort Director Engineering, Muni Pillay says that they have already stored sufficient water supply to cater for the 4 day planned shutdown.
The Water Authority of Fiji is asking residents of Nadi and Lautoka to take ownership and start filling up water for the upcoming shutdown.
The Authority says whilst they have a well-planned strategy in place on placing water tanks around Nadi and Lautoka as a backup reserve, residents are advised to store water.
The planned 4-day water shutdown in the Nadi and Lautoka area is to carry out repair works at the Nagado Water Treatment Plant.
