National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad says they are currently investigating the allegations made in the Fiji Sun about alleged statements made by their MP Parmod Chand in a meeting in Labasa in February and how they came to be reported.

Professor Prasad says Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has attacked NFP on the basis of the newspaper reports.

He had told Fijivillage yesterday that he has asked the newspaper to provide conclusive and irrefutable proof that Parmod Chand had made those comments.

Professor Prasad says at this point, any person who comments on the newspaper’s reports believing them to be true is advised to carefully consider their legal position.

He adds that a further statement will be issued soon.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum says that three people have confirmed to the Fiji Sun that they went to a meeting in which Parmod Chand allegedly made a number of comments saying that Muslims and South Indians are running the country.

Sayed‑Khaiyum says that the three people also said that Chand had allegedly said that non‑South Indians and non‑Muslims will have to go into the water.

While responding to NFP Leader Professor Biman Prasad’s call to provide proof that the NFP has been campaigning based on race and religion, Sayed‑Khaiyum says this is the proof.
