Speaker of Parliament Doctor Jiko Luveni will make a ruling at a later date after National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad raised the issue today that Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum had allegedly breached the Standing Orders and had allegedly misled and brought dishonour and disrepute to parliament.

Professor Prasad says the issue is regarding Sayed-Khaiyum’s comments that there was no data collected based on ethnicity in the 2000 and 2017 census.

He says there was no census done in 2000 and the census was done in 2007.

Prasad also says that there was ethnicity breakdown in the 2007 and 2017 census.

The NFP Leader says the 2017 ethnicity breakdown in the census should be made public as it cost the taxpayers about 14.5 million dollars as stated in the 2017/2018 National Budget.

SODELPA MP Mosese Bulitavu had earlier raised the issue that Sayed-Khaiyum had misled parliament when the Speaker asked for the confirmation of the Minutes of the parliament sitting on Monday.

Speaker, Doctor Jiko Luveni made it clear in Bulitavu’s case that his statement cannot qualify for that as they were looking at the confirmation of the Minutes and that is to ensure that if it is a true record of what transpired on Monday.

She says Bulitavu can file a substantive motion on the issue later.
