A man has been charged with attempting to make intimate recordings inside the New Zealand embassy in the United States.

The New Zealander appeared in the Auckland District Court on Monday.

He was charged with intentionally attempting to make an intimate visual recording of another person in the embassy in Washington DC between July 26th and 28th last year.

A police spokesperson confirmed the charge was in relation to an "off‑shore matter".
