The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission says there are better days ahead for consumers after it launched its five-year strategic plan and re-branding at the Grand Pacific Hotel last night.
A key focus of that new strategic plan is building consumer confidence so they understand what they are purchasing and also what price they will pay.
Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission CEO Joel Abraham says a key part of the launch is their new interactive website which opens up more channels for people to report their complaints.
While officially launching the new brand and strategic plan last night, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama commended the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission for ensuring consumers’ interests are protected saying more businesses are becoming compliant, resulting in a fairer market for Fiji.
Bainimarama says the FCCC has penalised several monopolistic importers and wholesalers who were gouging prices at the expense of Fijian consumers.
Bainimarama adds the government’s commitment to not only maintaining but to grow the enforcement capabilities of the Commission is clear saying from 2010 to 2017, the resources that have been allocated by Government to the FCCC has grown from $600,000 dollars to $3.3 million - a 400% increase.
