New Zealand's netballers have suffered one of the biggest upsets in Commonwealth Games history with a humiliating 57‑52 defeat to Malawi.

Australia's Diamonds joined Jamaica on top of Pool A after three games following a 60‑38 win over South Africa, but it was the Kiwi loss that was the talk of the Games.

The Silver Ferns tipped to play Australia in the gold medal match, suffered heavily for a shambolic third quarter to leave their medal hopes hanging in the balance.

It's the first time Malawi, whose players danced in delight on court after the triumph, have ever beaten New Zealand.

Malawi coach Whyte Mulilima says they have beaten the untouchables and everybody will be shocked back home.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Pearls will face Australia at 5.02pm today in it’s third group match.

Fiji lost to Barbados 65-44 on Saturday in it’s second match.
