The Surveyors Registration Board has raised concerns regarding the lack of interest in the field of surveying.
Board’s Chairman, Rod Jepsen today presented Veenesh Kumar Karan with a registered surveyor certificate.
Karan is now the fifth registered surveyor in the country.
Registered surveyor is attained after surveyors who have already attained qualifications from various institutes and have been working in Surveying fields, successfully completes the five surveying projects required by the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources.
Jepsen believes that there is a lack of promotion being carried out in schools, however he says plans are now in place to create awareness in schools about Surveyors so that children can take interest in the field after completing high school.
Jepsen says local institutes like the Fiji National University and the University of the South Pacific now have programs available for those who want to study in the field.
Jepsen adds that five students from Marist Brothers High School will be involved with the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources from next week and will be learning more about the profession.
Karan who is a Surveyor with Energy Fiji Limited was acknowledged for his hard-work and is already planning on setting up a Surveying business in the near future.
