A 32-year-old serving prisoner has been sentenced to two years and six months imprisonment after pleading guilty to a count each of act with intent to cause grievous harm, serious assault, damaging property and resisting arrest.
While reading the sentence Judge Justice Daniel Goundar stated that the two assault victims were his wife and a female police officer.
He stated that when the man went home after work, he saw that his children were home alone with a sickly relatively and when he went looking for his wife, he saw her at the Suva foreshore and couldn’t control his anger and started punching her, then dragged her into the taxi and further assaulted her upon reaching home.
The incident occurred on the 13th of January this year.
Justice Goundar told the man that he holds strong misguided views about females because his wife used to work however he made her leave her job and stay home.
He also stated that upon arrest when the man was taken to the hospital he again attempted to assault his wife and when a female officer tried to stop him, he punched the officer on the chest.
Justice Goundar said that instead of giving love and care to his wife he assaulted her.
