In a male dominated work environment Preetika Naidu has taken up the role as a Field Assistant at Fiji Sugar Corporation’s, Field Extension Services Department.

Naidu who joined FSC in February grew up on a sugar cane farm in Tavua and she says she always loved the outdoors as a little girl and she could never see herself doing anything else apart from farming.

After finishing her secondary education, Naidu pursued a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at the Fiji National University.

Naidu is one of the pioneering women who work in the field agricultural section of the sugar industry.

In her current role, she carries out a lot of administrative tasks for the Drumasi sector office.

And she offers a lot of support to the Field Coordinator and Team Leader for the Drumasi Sector.

Naidu says grower queries can range from weedicide advice, farm production, requests for assistance or invoices and payments.

Drumasi sector in Tavua is one of the largest sugar can sectors in Fiji and has a grower base of 568 farmers.
