The Fiji Football Association is now considering whether drug tests on soccer players should be conducted before they get registered to play in a competition.
Fijivillage has questioned Fiji FA’s CEO Mohammed Yusuf if they will do drug tests before the players take the field as currently tests are done after the matches.
With the current process, players would be able to enhance their performance through the use of drugs and it can also have an impact on the result of the game.
When asked, Yusuf says the Fiji FA Board will be looking into this issue.
It is likely that district associations may be asked to conduct tests on players before their players are registered.
Five soccer players were tested positive for marijuana during the group stages of the Vodafone Fiji FACT.
One player has re‑offended and he is expected to face a lengthy suspension.
The other four are suspended for a month and will be tested again before they can join their teams.
Meanwhile, the Vodafone Fiji FACT final between Labasa and Rewa will kick off at 2pm this Sunday at Ratu Cakobau Park and you can catch the live commentary on our sister station, Radio Sargam.
