Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem has confirmed that 2 people changed their address on their voter cards to be eligible for the Homes-CARE assistance.

He says that this is based on a sample of 40 people they had looked at.

Saneem says for the people who have corrected their information, the Fijian Election Office has not taken any action.

He adds that earlier into the Homes CARE initiative, the Fijian Elections Office was made aware of the likely possibility that persons’ were giving fraudulent information to update their details to qualify for the initiative requirement.

Saneem says they are looking at a larger sample to ascertain if any fraud was committed.

There is currently a freeze on the amendment of voter details in the Western Division to make sure that the information on a voter card is not being amended for the Homes‑CARE initiative.

The freeze is till the 1st of July.

Meanwhile, Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum had earlier said that some people have even gone to the Fijian Elections Office and changed their address to an area affected by the floods.
