The complainant in the rape trial of four men has told the court that she did not willingly have sex with one of the accused persons.

Sanjay Lal, Wame Baleimakogai, Napolioni Leiloma and serving prisoner Luke Sorovakatini are charged with the alleged rape of two women on the 9th of October, 2016 in Tailevu.

When asked by Sorovakatini’s lawyer if she had gotten in the car with Sorovakatini even though she was not very familiar with him, the witness had replied yes.

The lawyer had asked her if she had told police that she had consented to having sex with the accused on the day of the alleged incident, to which the woman said she had not consented.

The lawyer had further asked if she had slept with Sorovakatini in his room at his relative’s home.

The woman had said yes in court.

The lawyer had further asked if she had helped his family plant cassava the next day, and then helped his mother and sister prepare lunch.

She confirmed that she had done that.

When the woman had confirmed that those were the events that took place, the lawyer had said that she had the opportunity to tell them about the alleged incident but she had not told anyone.

Sorovakatini is charged with one count of rape, Baleimakogai and Leiloma are charged with three counts of rape, while Lal is charged with a count each of rape and assault with intent to rape.

The trial will continue before High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo at 9.30am tomorrow.
