Police have recorded a few accidents involving police motorbikes after it was analysed that motorists are not making way for police officers on motorbikes.
When questioned by Fijivillage on the number of accidents that have occurred involving police motorbikes, Director Traffic, Mahesh Mishra says he does not have the statistics at this stage.
Mishra adds that from the analysis of the accidents, police have come to know that motorists need to be aware that there is a police motorbike on the road conducting operations and for the safety of the motorcyclist and information of the motorist, officers will have to use the emergency lights to warn or indicate that there is a police motorbike on the road.
He stressed that the use of emergency lights on any of the motorbikes and vehicles is proper procedure in any operation conducted by their officers.
Mishra says even if an officer is simply returning to their respective stations on a motorbike the use of the emergency light is following procedure.
Mishra also highlighted that Police Officers have been advised to follow the best practices, adding that motorists with any issues on the use of emergency lights can raise their concern at their nearest Police Station.
