Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the talk that he is controlling everything in the government is a racist thing because those who are raising this issue are just seeing him as a Kai India.
Sayed-Khaiyum made this statement at the Budget Roadshow at Rishikul Sanatan College after a Nasinu resident Isikeli Komaisavai said that there is a lot of talk and gossip about a two men government and Sayed-Khaiyum controlling the ministries.
Sayed-Khaiyum told Komaisavai that the processes are clear, and this is a racist thing.
The Attorney General says people who always sign off for the budget are permanent secretaries.
He says those that are under requisition in the budget are sent through to the Permanent Secretary for Finance Makereta Konrote and she can approve up to $1 million of requisition.
Sayed-Khaiyum says for the large expenses, the Permanent Secretary for Finance recommends with all the documents and he as Minister for Economy will approve the request.
He says this is not about holding many portfolios and controlling all ministries as the requisition system has been in place in other budgets for other governments since the late Ratu Mara days.
