As of 14th May this year, over 110,000 people in the Central and Ra subdivisions have been vaccinated under the Meningococcal National Immunisation program.
The Ministry of Health states that the Meningococcal Immunization rollout program in the Western division started on the 11th of July and the Northern Division rollout has also started.
Reports received from Western Division confirms that more than 25,000 people have been immunised within 2 weeks of the program.
Speaking on behalf of the Immunisation team in Sigatoka, Lisi Koveni says that within 2 weeks of the program the team has immunised over 3000 people.
Koveni says that so far since they began this Immunisation Program in July, there has been positive response by the communities and parents and on a daily basis as they are able to immunise 30 to 50 people at the clinic and their target is to reachout to 14,000 people.
She says they are determined to reachout to the remote communities as their team works closely with the village headmen, tikina’s and advisory counsellors.
