There was an earthquake in the Fiji region soon after 1pm today.

The Mineral Resources Department has confirmed that there is no threat of a tsunami.

It says that the 4.8 magnitude earthquake at a depth of  50.7km occurred 11km from Yadua Island which is West of Nabouwalu.

Fijivillage received calls from Labasa, Lautoka and Suva City about buildings shaking.

However no damage has been reported.
