Fiji was without a parliament for 8 years before it came back in 2014 and it continues to look to better it’s effectiveness in the various roles that it plays.

This was highlighted by the Secretary General of Parliament Viniana Namosimalua while speaking at the opening of the Corporate Management for Pacific Parliaments Training.

She also urged the participants to engage fully in the activities during the two week training as these are all in place to help them explore potentials and to challenge them to help better processes in their respective parliaments.

UNDP Effective Governance Team Leader, Dyfan Jones also highlighted that the training for provides for a well structured, well staffed and well resourced parliament which is essential to a vibrant democracy.

The Fiji Parliament with UNDP is currently hosting a two week regional training on Corporate Management for Pacific Parliaments Course I and II and includes participation from countries such as Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Samoa, Marshall Islands, PNG, Tonga, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands.
