A total of 600 domestic violence reports have been received by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Center from January to mid August this year.
This was highlighted by the Coordinator of the Fiji Women's Crisis Center, Shamima Ali when signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation.
Ali says that the reports were lodged at their 5 center’s across the country adding that these reports come from those who go to the centre for counselling and from the toll free line 1560.
She also highlighted that the most calls were received from the Central and the Western divisions.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry for Women, Doctor Josefa Koroivueta says that the joint understanding is to create the awareness on the availability of the domestic violence helpline.
The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre signed an MOU that extends their partnership with the Ministry for Women, following an allocation of $200,000 to help the centre with their services on violence against women and children.
