Environment officials are still awaiting the outcome of the tests done at Cunningham creek in 4 miles to find out what substance in the river is allegedly causing the foul smell there.

Minister Doctor Mahendra Reddy has told Fijivillage that environment officers have conducted tests and they have not found the source of the substance.

The stench from the river is affecting residents of Maravu Settlement who live along the creek.

There is a wastewater pipeline along the creek that carries all untreated wastewater from the greater Suva area to the Kinoya Wastewater Treatment Plant.

In a response to questions by Legend FM News, the Water Authority of Fiji has confirmed that the substance is not from any of its wastewater system.

The Water Authority of Fiji says with the initial laboratory tests conducted by the Authority’s National Water Quality Lab in Kinoya on the liquid substance found in the Samabula Creek along Maravu.

However, the Water Authority of Fiji also confirms that it is carrying our further tests and investigations to establish the substance and its source.
