Anyone with a smart phone in Lautoka City will now have access to free wifi through the Walesi Hotspot that was launched at Shirley Park.

While officiating at the launch of Walesi Wifi Hotspot Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Communications, Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum says that government is trying to provide public spaces where any Fijian can go to at anytime of the day and have access to the high speed internet.

Sayed-Khaiyum says that they want every Fijian to have access to internet, irrespective of how rich or poor they are.

He says that they are doing this not only to allow people to have access to internet for their leisure, but the idea is also for people to access a lot of information about government services and many services will be made available on the internet.

People can receive free high speed Wifi for 60 minutes everyday on a daily basis in certain areas around the country.

These areas include My Suva Park, Sukuna Park, Sigatoka Bus Stand, Koroivolu Park in Nadi, Shirley Park in Lautoka, Ba Bus Stand, Korovou Market, Syria Park in Nausori, Labasa Civic Centre and Savusavu Market.

$40 million has been allocated to the ICT sector for increased speed in public Wifi hot spots in Fiji.

This allocation has also allowed for the installation of free high speed Wifi hot spots for all Fiji National University campuses in Fiji.
