All Blacks star Sonny Bill Williams is backing his long-time companion Quade Cooper’s move south from the Queensland Reds to the Melbourne Rebels, following his falling out with coach Brad Thorn.
Cooper did not kick a ball in Super Rugby this year, banished to Queensland club rugby by Thorn, before confirming his move to Melbourne earlier this week.
Speaking to media in Japan ahead of the All Blacks' clash with the Wallabies in Tokyo, Williams said that he was firmly behind Cooper and any decisions he makes.
Williams was then asked about the relationship between Cooper and Thorn, his former All Blacks teammate.
He said “I will always support Quade, this situation's no different."
The Wallabies will meet the All Blacks at 6pm tomorrow.
