The University of the South Pacific has confirmed that no one was injured in the USP Communications Building fire last night.
The fire spread to all three levels of the building which includes some offices for Pacific TAFE, the Centre for Flexible Learning and especially Student Administrative Services which deals with students admission, registration, student data and record management, examinations and associated support services in scholarship management.
In an email sent to all staff and students, USP says Student Administrative Services staff will need to wait until all assessments are carried out about the safety of the area.
This safety assessment would be carried out today and over the weekend.
It is not clear at this stage at which level of the building the fire started.
Firefighters from the Suva Fire Station received a call about the fire at around 11.30 last night and responded immediately.
The National Fire Authority has started their initial investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
