The University of the South Pacific has revealed that alternative arrangements have been made for all staff affected by the fire that destroyed the University’s Communications Building on Thursday night.

USP Communications Building houses the Student Administrative Services, Pacific Technical and Further Education and the Centre for Flexible Learning.

The University earlier confirmed in a statement that no student or staff of the University was injured or harmed at the time of the fire.

USP also confirms that the National Fire Authority is currently at the sight and the affected area is cordoned off and is strictly out of bounds to the public.

It was earlier confirmed that the fire on Thursday night spread to all three levels of the building which includes some offices for Pacific TAFE, the Centre for Flexible Learning and especially Student Administrative Services which deals with students admission, registration, student data and record management, examinations and associated support services in scholarship management.

USP says that it is currently carrying out its safety assessment.
