Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho has suspended 12 police officers without pay pending the outcome of the Internal Affairs investigation into the escape of five remand prisoners from police custody.

Qiliho has interdicted five regular officers and suspended seven Special Constables without pay effective immediately.

One of the five remand prisoners that escaped from the Suva Courthouse on Tuesday was arrested in Vatuwaqa.

Police have confirmed that Suliano Rokosuka was arrested by officers of the special taskforce at Wailea Settlement last night and is in custody at the Nabua Police Station.

A man and woman were also arrested yesterday for allegedly harbouring Rokosuka and both are being questioned at the Nabua Police Station.

Police say the search continues for the other four escapees and the taskforce continues to work around the clock to ensure all are arrested.

The five are facing charges for their alleged involvement in separate aggravated robberies and are considered to be high risk.
