What are you giving your child for Christmas this year?
This is the question posed to Fijians parents this Christmas by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre with the hope of encouraging them to buy constructive gifts for their children.
Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Coordinator Shamima Ali says this movement is focused on encouraging parents not to buy toys that represent destruction or violence such as a toy gun.
She says toys of violence endorse violence as a way of solving problems and do not develop reasoning or verbal skills.
Ali says the movement has been effective.
