24-year-old Mererai Vatege who has been admitted to the bar as a lawyer is the first lawyer in her family and her village.

Vatege who is from Waikububuka Village in Nadarivatu, Tavua acknowledged the sacrifice her parents made that has made it possible for her to complete her studies.

Vatege’s father, Samisoni Qaqa shared the sacrifices he made and the pride he has for his daughter after years of perseverance.

Vatege says that growing up in the interior of Tavua has taught her many things including the will to persevere and never give up and she has also encouraged other young people from rural areas to work hard and not give up to make their dreams a reality.

Vatege is one of the 42 law graduates from the University of the South Pacific who have been admitted to the bar.
