The seven people who were in a boat that was drifting between Nanuya Island and Mana Island in the Mamanuca group are now safe and with their family.

Ameniasi Vatudruadrua who was one of those on the boat confirmed to Fijivillage that they have all returned safely to Yanuya Island.

Vatudruadrua says they had departed for Mana Island last night at around 10pm to do some work and upon their return at around 12pm ran out of fuel.

He says they were lucky enough as they were at the reef outside of Matamanoa Island when the incident occurred so they were anchored until around 7 this morning.

They were assisted people who were going to work this morning.

The Police Search and Rescue Centre is currently searching for seven passengers on a boat that is adrift between Nanuya Island and Mana Island in the Mamanuca group.

They received a call from one of the passengers at about 3am today, who told them that their boat is adrift.

The passenger’s phone is now switched off.

Police say that the details of their departure is unclear at this stage.

People living along the Mamanuca Group and coastal villages along Mamanuca and Yasawa are urged to keep a look out for this boat.
