The Fiji National University will be investing half a billion dollars over the next ten years in the construction of new buildings and infrastructure.

While stating this at the FNU’s College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies graduation ceremony, FNU Chancellor Dr Rajesh Chandra says this will transform FNU into a modern, well equipped higher education institution which Fijians can be proud of to call their national university.

Dr Chandra says that half-million dollars was used for the expansion of the College of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry library which was opened earlier this year.

He adds that the library has a comfortable seating area and three discussion rooms which has smart TV’s and WIFI connectivity.

Dr Chandra says that 30 million dollars will be used to construct a state of the art Veterinary Training Hospital at Koronivia Campus and this will be fully funded by the Fijian Government.

He adds that a new sports complex is planned to be constructed at the Nasinu Complex which will cost about 8 million dollars where this complex will provide FNU students and near-by communities top-of-line sports facilities.

FNU’s Chancellor says that they are working with the Pacific Community’s Educational Quality Assessment Project to get accreditations for its short courses at the national and regional level.

Dr Chandra highlighted that the university has embarked on a mission to reduce its carbon footprint where they aim to generate 90 percent of its electricity through green initiatives at its Namaka, Natabua and Labasa campuses in the next three years.

He adds that this project has commenced with the installation of a 250-kilowatt solar photovoltaics plant at the Namaka Campus where it meets most of its energy needs.
