The MV Southern Phoenix will be towed outside the Suva Harbour sometime this week if weather permits.
This has been confirmed by the Acting CEO of the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji, Captain Philip Hill who says that the Southern Phoenix will be towed to a position of about 6 miles away from the reef just outside the Suva Harbour.
Captain Hill says that at that position it will be sunk at a contour depth of 1,000 meters.
He says when the hull has been stabilized and all oil remittance and hazardous materials have been removed with only the clean hull left it will be removed by the salvage company sometime this week.
