A man has been jailed for 3 years and 9 months for attacking and robbing a construction worker in Raiwasa last year.

22‑year‑old Usaia Tikocina who is convicted of one count of aggravated robbery will have to serve 2 years and 1 month in prison before he is eligible for parole.

It was heard in court that the construction worker got off a taxi at Shalimar Street roundabout in Raiwasa at about 3 am on 2nd June last year and was attacked by Tikocina as he walked towards the bakery at the supermarket.

The man was assaulted and then robbed of a mobile phone worth $300 and $10 cash.

Justice Vincent Perera considered the nature of the force used on the victim as well as the fact that the offence was committed at 3 o’clock in the morning as the aggravating circumstances.

The Judge also considered that the man was a young first offender and was remorseful.
