The Bulls are so desperate to draw a decent crowd for their Super Rugby game against the Crusaders in Pretoria that they are selling some 12,000 tickets for around NZ $2.

Gone are the days when the celebrated ground of Loftus Versfeld would be filled with fanatical Bulls fans, with only 7,483 bothering to turn up to watch the Pretoria‑based team play the Waratahs last weekend.

Given Loftus has a 50,000 capacity, it would have been deflating for the Bulls players to be surrounded by more than 42,000 seats and they will be pleading with their back office staff to do all they can to sell more tickets ahead of the game against the Super Rugby champions, the Crusaders.

The sight of such a paltry crowd motivated Springboks back rower Duane Vermeulen to tap into his social media account and challenge the franchise to do something about the malaise.

The Bulls play the Crusaders at 5.10am Saturday.
