Government gave $5,000 each to the 14 players of the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7's team and $2, 500 each to the coach and the five officials of the team.

The players will also share $100,000 in bonuses from Fiji Rugby Union.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama today joined thousands of fans in welcoming the World Rugby 7s Series Champions.

The team was hosted at the chiefly village of Nawaka which is the home of HSBC 7s Series Rookie of the Year Ratu Meli Derenalagi.

People came from different walks of life to celebrate the achievement of the team.

While speaking at the welcome ceremony Bainimarama says that the team has taken the country to a different level.

He acknowledged the work of Coach Gareth Baber, veteran player Jerry Tuwai and Captain Paula Dranisiniukula.

Coach, Gareth Baber says that they always feel good to come back and celebrate the team’s victory.

Baber was speaking while the team was hosted by the people of Nawaka Village earlier today.

He says that when they are playing any game, they are always reminded about their families and the huge support that is back home.

Fiji Rugby Union CEO, John O’Connor welcomed the team at the Nadi Airport with other officials from FRU this morning.

The Fiji 7s team won the HSBC World Sevens series.

They also won five tournaments in the series which were the Cape Town 7s, the Hamilton 7s, the Hong Kong 7s, the London and Paris 7s.
