Police has confirmed that the crew and passengers of the Government vessel M.V Cagivou responded to a distress call last night resulting in the safe rescue of 17 passengers and crew on board the M.V Uluinabukelevu.
Police says that information was received from a senior police officer who was in Gau that the M.V Uluinabukelevu was drifting in the Lomaiviti waters after encountering engine problems.
MV Cagivou left Vanuaso, Gau and sailed towards the drifting vessel to rescue the passengers on board.
Police say that after 8pm information was received that all 17 passengers on board MV Uluinabukelevu were rescued and transferred onto the MV Cagivou with nil casualties and the vessel had been towed to Levuka to await the arrival of the tug boat from Suva.
