Minister for Forests Osea Naiqamu says while we want to create wealth from our forest resources, we have to strike a balance between generating economic activity and expanding our resources and protecting our natural environment and ecosystems.

Naiqamu added we have a collective responsibility to ensure that Fiji’s forests resources are managed sustainability.

While speaking at the Forestry Stakeholders Consultation in the Northern Division, Naiqamu added the balance that they strike will ensure that our forests are able to provide for our Nation now and well into the future.

Naiqamu encouraged more than 50 stakeholders present at the consultation to work closely with Government through the Ministry in addressing key issues that affect our society, from sustainable forests management to economic growth and climate change.

He emphasised this is a responsibility that they should all accept.

Naiqamu added that the Ministry was able to recruit adequate staff to be positioned in key operation areas throughout the country who will work closely with them to capture what is considered information that is already a legal requirement.
