The Central Eastern Mini Buses Association has written to the Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Minister for Transport, Jone Usamate for mini bus fare to be increased by 50 cents across the country.
General Secretary, Yashwardhan Ram says the mini bus fare from Suva to Nausori is $1.50 and they are proposing it to be $2.
He says their association has been asking for the increase for almost two decades and they have made various submissions to the Minister of Transport.
Ram says their operational cost is high and with no fare increase, a lot of mini bus operators have sold their businesses as they are also faced with the issue of illegal mini bus operators who are taking away their share of business.
