More streetlights are being installed in populated areas in the country.

Minister for Infrastructure, Jone Usamate says they have limited amount of money and plans are already underway to have more streetlights.

The FRA has installed around 2,400 streetlights along Queens and Kings Roads.

General Manager Electrical, Musheer Khan says this project is near completion and will see around 2,600 streetlights installed in these sections.

A total of 1,587 street lights have been renewed between the Suva to Nausori corridor, Lami, Nadi, Sigatoka and Lautoka.

Khan says work is also underway on the installation of 326 streetlights in the Wainibokasi area.

He says the Labasa to Savusavu project is presently underway and will see the installation of 753 streetlights along the Labasa to Savusavu corridor.

With the aim of enhancing the safety of road users by providing well‑lit roads in both rural and urban areas, the government has allocated $8.7 million to the Streetlights and Traffic Signals Improvement Programme.
