High Court Judge, Justice Riyaz Hamza has sentenced a man to 4 years and 10 months imprisonment for a count of act with intent to cause grievous harm.
Jese Toma had assaulted his brother in law in October last year in Taveuni.
It was heard in court that Toma repeatedly struck the complainant with a cane knife.
While sentencing the man, Justice Hamza says Toma attacked the complainant at his home and in front of his wife and kids.
Justice Hamza says Toma caused serious injuries to the complainant and because of the attack the complainant has now lost mobility of his left palm.
A non-parole period of 3 years and 10 months.
