Parliament has been told that Fiji Airways is thinking about putting up cameras in the luggage area on planes because they have found personal items of people taken out of suitcases.

Minister for Economy and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum highlighted this while responding to SODELPA MP Lynda Tabuya’s question about whether Fiji Airways will take over the ground handling services currently being carried out by Air Terminal Services Limited.

Sayed-Khaiyum says because of these shenanigans that take place,
organisations like Fiji Airways would want to do their own ground handling and catering services.

He says there is absolutely no exclusivity in place as far as the legal framework is concerned and government believes that if there is an airline that has the capacity to deliver engineering, ground handling, luggage and catering services then it can do so.

SODELPA MP Ro Filipe Tuisawau said it is unfair to generalize that all ATS workers are thieves.
