All Blacks Lock Brodie Retallick says that he suffered a nerve damage when his left shoulder popped out of its socket while playing for the All Blacks against the Springboks, adding that it made him fear for his place in the World Cup squad.

The 2014 World Rugby player of the year says that he wasn't sure if he would be available even five days ago.

Retallick says that he knew selectors were thinking about taking four locks and giving me a chance to come right but he wasn't certain of selection.

The 28-year-old is not expected to be available until the team's quarter final on October 19th.

The All Blacks play the Springboks in their first Rugby World Cup match at 9.45pm Saturday 21st September in Japan.
