Minister for Fisheries, Semi Koroilavesau stressed in parliament today that villagers fishing in their own fishing ground or qoliqoli areas are not required to pay any licensing fees.
Koroilaveisau highlighted this after SODELPA MP, Niko Nawaikula questioned him on why they are imposing licences on poor villagers who cannot even pay for their fuel.

The Minister says that fishing licences are only paid by commercial fishermen and if villages are fishing in their own qoliqoli areas, they are not required to pay anything.
Koroilavesau also states that the total revenue collected from inshore fishing licence fees in 2017 is $22,973.21.
