Assistant Superintendent of Police ASP Eileen Pickering has graduated as a United Nations Formed Police Unit Assessment of Operational Capabilities Officer.
ASP Pickering's qualification means she is able to work as an Assessment of Operational Capabilities officer to conduct mandatory assessments and clearance, being a pre‑requisite for service in a peacekeeping operation.
ASP Pickering completed a two weeks training with 34 other participants from various UN Missions.
ASP Pickering says her achievement was inspired from the current United Nations Mission in South Sudan Police Commissioner and fellow Fijian officer, Unaisi Vuniwaqa.
She says training was demanding as they had to sit for daily exams, but the sacrifice of sleepless nights was worthwhile.
Her achievement will also assist Fiji to be able to prepare their own Force Police Unit before deployment to UN missions.
