Minister for Health, Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete says there is a need for about 200 people to donate blood on a daily basis to cater for the demand in all the hospitals and health centers in Fiji.

Dr. Waqainabete highlighted this as he was donating the first pint of blood for the Ministry's Blood Drive campaign this morning.

He says giving blood equates to giving life.

The Minister says for Suva alone, 50 people are required to donate blood daily.

He says the blood bank faces a daily challenge of trying to get people to donate and they have always encouraged people to donate so that the blood bank does not run out.

Dr. Waqainabete says that people should not only wait when a relative is admitted and then they give blood, but for them to have a culture of donating when they can.
