Students of Ba School for Special Education now have a temporary learning facility after a fire destroyed their school building in July this year.
The Australian Government gave $57,000 towards the renovation of Fatima Hostel at Ba Muslim Primary School to make it suitable for use as classrooms for students with special needs.
It was officially opened by the Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes and the Minister for Education, Rosy Akbar.
The renovations included repair works, construction of railings and disability ramps and making toilets accessible and wheel-chair friendly.
Akbar says special schools, including the Ba School for Special Education, play an important role in improving the quality of life of children with special needs by supporting them to develop and become an integral part of our society.
